Easy 5-Ingredient Chili (Quick, Hearty & Weeknight-Friendly)

When you need a comforting, filling dinner that doesn’t require a long ingredient list or hours in the kitchen, this Easy 5-Ingredient Chili is the answer. It’s rich, hearty, and comes together with pantry staples you probably already have on hand.

Ingredients

  • 450 g ground beef or sausage
  • 1 medium white or yellow onion chopped (about 150 g)
  • 2 garlic cloves minced (about 6 g)
  • 425 g canned diced tomatoes
  • 850 g canned chili with beans
  • Shredded cheddar cheese for topping (optional)

Instructions

Cook the meat

  • Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef or sausage and cook until no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks.

Add onion and garlic

  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring often, until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.
  • If the pan seems too dry, add 1–2 tablespoons olive oil while the vegetables cook.

Add tomatoes and chili

  • Pour in the diced tomatoes and the canned chili with beans. Stir well to combine.

Simmer

  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and well combined.

Serve

  • Ladle the chili into bowls and serve hot. Top with shredded cheddar cheese if desired.
